The current study systematically reviews the Times Higher Education World University Ranking methodology and the 5-year performances of the top 10 Turkish universities in this ranking, covering the years 2018-2022. The methodology and indicators used in this ranking and the individual and average scores of the top 10 universities in the five-year period were examined. The findings indicate that both foundation and state universities are included in the rankings, but foundation universities have better maintained their positions over the years. A significant finding of the study is that education and research scores of those Turkish universities that are always in the top 10 are higher. Regarding citations, industry income and international outlook scores, high scores obtained in these categories seem to be insufficient to ensure permanence, although it positively affects university positions in the short run.
