Recent advancements in communication technologies and increasing social demands have transformed traditional interaction methods through the rise of the Internet and social media platforms. These platforms foster community by facilitating idea exchange but also present challenges for children and adolescents, including exposure to harmful content and involvement in online crimes. Therefore, young people must be guided in these areas and supported with positive guidance. Thus, this literature review explores the multifaceted impact of internet and social media use on youth. Digital technologies are now integral to youth culture, providing unprecedented opportunities for connection, information dissemination, and self-expression, while also posing significant risks. The review discusses both the positive effects, such as enhanced communication and access to educational resources, and the negative effects, including cyberbullying, inappropriate content exposure, and addiction. It also presents findings on the most preferred social media platforms among youth and their usage rates.
